Waterline Service

Water Main Breaks

When a water main break occurs, it can disrupt water supply to homes and businesses.  Here’s what you need to know about water main breaks and their repair:

Repair Timeline:

Under normal circumstances, water main breaks are repaired within 48 hours. The repair time varies based on factors such as the size of the break, ground conditions (especially if it’s frozen), and weather conditions.

Water Main Repair Process:

Once crews locate the break, they work to repair it. The process involves excavating the ground around the break, removing the damaged section, and replacing it with a new pipe.

For old or corroded pipes, plumbers might recommend replacing the entire length of the water main.

Remember, water main breaks are addressed promptly to minimize disruptions and restore water service as quickly as possible. If you experience an outage, stay informed and follow any instructions provided by local authorities.

Waterline Repair And Replacement

  • water line, also known as a water main line, is a crucial part of your property’s plumbing system. It connects the water supply from outside your home to the pipes inside.
  • Over time, water lines can experience wear and tear due to factors like tree roots, mineral buildup, seismic events, freezing-and-thawing, high water pressure, and general deterioration.
  • Signs of water line issues include reduced water pressure and water discoloration.
  • If you notice any of these signs, prompt action is necessary to prevent emergency plumbing situations.
  • The process involves an in-depth assessment using a plumbing video camera to pinpoint the issue’s cause and location.
  • Water line replacement involves removing and upgrading an existing water line that has become damaged or outdated.
  • It ensures a reliable water supply in your home.

Remember, addressing water line issues promptly can save you from more significant problems down the line. If you suspect any water line problems, don’t hesitate to seek professional assistance!

Sewer Main Breaks

A sewer main break can occur due to pressure from growing tree roots, corrosion, and shifting of the ground due to natural disasters or construction. Determining if there is a break, where the break occurred, and how to locate and repair the break can be both stressful and confusing.

What happens during a sanitary main break?

Like water mains, our sanitary pipes sometimes break and require repair.

These types of repairs don’t impact your drinking water like a water main break. They impact sanitary service like toilets and drains in your home.

  • During a repair, do not flush your toilet, shower, or use a dishwasher and washing machine.
  • Do not allow water to enter the drains, as it might cause sewer water to re-enter your home.
  • Cover your sinks and drains with a stopper or rag.

The steps to a sanitary main repair

  1. We receive a call from a citizen, roads, 311 or other party
  2. We dispatch a wastewater trouble crew to identify the issue
  3. Utility locators mark gas, sewer, electric, phone and other utilities
  4. We excavate to get at the pipe (between 8-24 feet of asphalt, dirt and other materials)
  5. We assess and repair the pipe best suited for site conditions
  6. We backfill, compact and pave (which can take 8 hours to cool)

What can cause sanitary main breaks?

  • Pipe age – wear and tear, corrosion
  • Pipe material– some older materials break down faster
  • Weather conditions– changes in temperature cause ground shifting
  • Installation process– unforeseen issues
  • Vibrations– heavy traffic, construction, ground shifting
  • Soil types and ground conditions– corrosion, ground water, etc.

Sewer Sag Repairs

What causes a sagging sewer line?

There are a few reasons why a sewer line might sag. The first is that it was not installed properly. Sewer lines must be installed at a downward slope away from your home, and a proper bedding of sand and gravel must be packed underneath it to give it proper support. If the material under the pipeline is too soft, the pipe will start to settle into it, disrupting the appropriate slope needed for gravity to pull the water away from your house. These conditions will allow for the pipe sagging and for a belly to form where water pools instead of flowing properly.

Unfortunately, even if the sewer line was installed correctly, natural movements of the earth from tree roots, earthquakes, and even heavy traffic above the area can lead to the pipe starting to sag.

How can you fix a sagging sewer line?

If you have water backing up into your home, a sagging sewer line could be to blame. Once you know you have one, what can you do about it? Experienced sewer professionals have a few ways to repair your issue.

How Much Does It Cost to Demolish a House?

If you love your land, but your home needs significant renovations, you may be wondering, “How much does it cost to demolish a house?” It seems intimidating, but demolition can be a surprisingly viable option in some circumstances.

House demolition is an option that can be surprisingly cost-effective in several situations. It can be challenging to find the piece of land you want to live on with a suitable house already in place in a busy housing market.

Cost Factors to Demolish a House

There’s no getting around the fact that house demolition is a big job—it’s not as simple as hiring a wrecking ball and letting it swing. Everything that goes into building a house has to be painstakingly undone and hauled away. The average range for demolition is between $8,000 and $25,000, which is significant; many factors feed into the overall cost. The size and construction of the house can have a bearing on the cost of demolition, but other elements, such as local permit requirements and unexpected expenses related to building materials in the house, are essential to consider as you build a budget for the project.

  • Typical Range: $8,000 to $25,000
  • National Average: $14,000
